If you want a wedding look to truly stand the test of time, then you’ll LOVE every detail of Charlotte and David’s classical English wedding. With a timeless, elegant and sophisticated style it’s a true classic!
Charlotte and David met in 2016 whilst both working in London. Two years later, David, originally from Sussex, was finally convinced by Charlotte to make the move north to her home county, Yorkshire. David popped the question on the 10th of January 2020. Having sneakily asked Charlotte’s boss to give her the day off, just as she was ready to leave for work, he told her he’d planned a long weekend away! Awww!
It was at Bolton Abbey with its Augustinian Priory ruins and idyllic riverside setting that Charlotte said “Yes”. A special place close to their hearts as it was one of the first places Charlotte took David when convincing him to move to Yorkshire! They then headed to a spa weekend at Grantley Hall in Ripon – which was such a memorable and stunning place, they then returned and booked it for their wedding venue!
Charlotte and David said “I do” on the 4th of September 2021 at their beloved Grantley Hall. Due to the Covid 19 restrictions placed on weddings they had decided in the third lockdown to reduce their wedding numbers to 30. Instead of the traditional wedding breakfast they chose to do something a little different and totally fabulous!
Remaining at Grantley Hall they indulged their guests with a 10-course tasting menu by Michelin starred Chef Shaun Rankin whose restaurant is also at the venue. They booked a singing waiter duo from the West End Singing Waiter Company to completely surprise their guests during the meal, and then ended the night with an amazing firework display!
With the long sweeping drive at Grantley Hall, its opulent interior and gorgeous wood panelling Charlotte’s bridal aesthetic complemented the timelessly elegant style of the venue. Selecting a colour scheme of emerald greens, soft pinks, ivory and a hint of gold, the couple chose fabulously traditional flowers such as beautiful Yorkshire grown dahlias, gorgeous roses, delphiniums and orchids, plus pink, ivory and green hydrangeas for their wedding blooms. This was extra special to Charlotte because they gave a subtle nod to her Grandmother’s wedding bouquet.
Charlotte’s dress also worked perfectly with their timeless and classic theme. She chose iconic British designer Sassi Holford’s ‘India’ dress for her wedding. India’s clean, streamlined tailoring and exquisite cut and design were the perfect fit for the classical timeless wedding theme Charlotte and David wanted.
Sassi had always been one of Charlotte’s top three designers when she started her dress hunt. Drawn to British designers, she simply loved Sassi’s range and flair. She fell in LOVE with the India gown because of its beautiful flowing satin skirt and the intricate ombre lace detailing on the bodice. India is such a special gown with a high neck, long sleeves and a stunning sheer back. Effortlessly elegant and with a skirt that catches the light beautifully, it’s no wonder Charlotte was drawn to this showstopper of a dress. She teamed her stunning India gown with the matching India veil and a beautiful Enzoani belt to really show off her waist.
Despite planning a wedding and the challenges of dress shopping in the Covid climate, Charlotte said her experience at LOVE was still an enjoyable experience despite Covid restrictions.
“I chose my dress at the end of October 2020, just before the third lockdown. Emma was warm and friendly as well as incredibly professional from the first meeting. It became apparent she was an Sassi Holford expert which made me sure I wanted to buy the dress from her. She made some great recommendations including the belt and the veil and was clearly very passionate about what she does and the brands she represents.”
Charlotte’s advice to brides planning a wedding is:
“Try to enjoy the build up to it and do things that are important to you and not to please anyone else! With hindsight we wish we’d planned for a smaller wedding from the get-go as it made the weekend very special where we could spend quality time with those closest to us.”
She also adds:
“On a practical note, if you know there is a supplier you really want – don’t leave it too late to contact them to book them in for your day. It’s amazing how quickly people get booked up!”
It’s true what they say – a classic theme never goes out of style! We’ve simply LOVED seeing Charlotte and David’s timelessly elegant wedding! Thanks so much to her photographer Laura Calderwood for sharing these photos. Special thanks to wedding stationers Bianco Blanc Paperie, Shaun Rankin Restaurant, Leafy Couture for their gorgeous wedding blooms and Poppy Pickering for the delicious cake.
